On February 2007, God spoke to our Pastor, Steven A. Cross, on a flight back to Dallas, Texas about building up a new church; after much prayer, fasting, and spending time in his secret place of consecration, Pastor Cross accepted the task.
Sometime in early March 2007, after accepting the will of God to start the church and understanding what God wanted him to do, Pastor Cross had not come up with a name for the church he was called to build. Pastor decided to go on another fast to seek God again because he didn’t want to just give this great ministry just any name. Pastor Cross wanted the name of the church to be a reflection of God’s greatness, super natural healing, total deliverance, anointing and power! He wanted the name to be pleasing to God.
Later that month, Pastor Cross went to a local church revival. And at this revival, there was a pregnant young lady to whom Pastor Cross was led to pray for. The presence and power of God was so powerful and strong the young lady happened to go into labor and had her baby that night. It was then to where God revealed to Pastor Cross and released the name for our church:
Nu Birth Christian Center
What does all this mean and why Nu Birth Christian Center? Well, lets find out… in our research NU— Greek for pneuma which means to breathe, it’s the vital spirit of God in other words, God’s spirit breathing upon; BIRTH— means the beginning of a new thing, being born; with CHRIST being the center of your heart naturally CHRISTIAN— means being a believer in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior and the word CENTER— means to gather in one place to worship.
So when you put it all together: its the spirit of God breathing upon his people, giving birth, birthing into the believer’s the anointing and power of God and for all to gathered into one location in His name sake. That location would be, of course – Nu Birth Christian Center!
After receiving the appointed name for this great ministry, Pastor Cross, rejoicing, went and shared the vision he received from God and the new church name with his mother, our mother of Nu Birth Christian Center, Mother Cross. The 2nd person he spoke with was his aunt, Evangelist Kathy Halfacre and then he contacted another person, an ex-co worker, close friend and spiritual sister, the one and only – yeah you guessed it, Sr. Elder Regina Smith. Every one he contacted was very excited about the vision and they all celebrated with him!
Soon after and much planning, Pastor Cross and a staff of 15 members held their first meeting in the home of Mother Cross on a Saturday night in July of 2007. This began the journey to open the doors of Nu Birth Christian Center!!!
On Sept 2, 2007 @ 10:29 am, the doors of Nu Birth Christian Center were finally launched opened to a packed out service with standing room only; the celebration didn’t just end there, we ended the night with a Musical Concert.
This would embark on a lot of “Firsts” for Nu Birth, we had our first 6am Thanksgiving Service; we were able to provide Thanksgiving dinner baskets to 10 families where 8 of those baskets went out to the neighboring community in Cedar Hill and our 1st Annual Christmas Banquet where we all exchanged gifts!
May 2009, Pastor Cross along with the Elders and Deacons of Nu Birth Christian Center were all consecrated and ordained in the Rhema Fellowship of Churches under the most powerful, most dynamic and the most truly anointed man of God who is the pastor and founder of Gospel Tabernacle Church in Dallas, Texas, our covering, Nu Birth’s spiritual grandfather, the Presiding and Honorable Bishop David E. Martin. Bishop Martin has been Pastor Cross’s spiritual father for many years. Pastor Cross is also a God-son to Bishop & First Lady Martin, and Big Brother to Dadrian Martin. Pastor Cross served as a faithful member of Gospel Tabernacle Church and served Bishop Martin also as an armor bearer; Pastor Cross participated on the praise team and member of the GT choir.
Nu Birth started out with 15 faithful members who were dedicated and worked hard to support Pastor Cross carry out the vision and pushed it into fulfillment; all their labors of love became very fruitful and is now rapidly growing into a membership of 140 plus members, including 5 Ministers, 10 graduating MITs and operating with 25 Ministries in Action: beginning with the Ministerial Staff, Intercessory Prayer, Deacon, Men, Women, Singles, Couples, Children’s, Youth and Young Adult Ministry, College Ministry, Music, Worship & Arts, Adult Choir, Video & Sound Ministry, Gifted Hands Ministry for the hearing impaired, Greeters & Hospitality, Street Team, New Members, Praise Dance, Mime, Special Events, Finance Team, Transportation and Security! And that was just to name a few because God is still breathing and birthing many more ministries to come!
God's hands is truly upon
Nu Birth Christian Center!
